Quick Background of Wat Phra Singh Temple

(Details as per board at Temple Entrance) Wat Phrasingha Woramahawiharn is the first class of royal temple. It was established by the 5th king, Phaya Payoo, of Mangrai Dynasty in 1345 AD. At the very beginning, the front of the temple was the place where merchants were coming and exchanging their goods. People called this place Lee Chiang Phra Market and the temple Wat Lee Chiang Phra. Around 1400 AD, Prince Mahaprom brought a Buddhasihingha image from Kamphaengpetch, and dedicated it to the king Saen Muang Ma, the 7th king of Mangrai Dynasty. The king installed the Sihingha image in Wat Lee Chiang Phra. Later people called this temple Wat PhraSingha because of the name of the Sihingha image.
