Hampi Temples: Uddana Virabhadra and Chandikeshawara Temples

Hampi is a city of temples and most of Hampi Temples are part of city’s rich heritage from Vijayanagara Empire period. Uddana Virabhadara and Chandikeshwara Temple are situated quite close to each other on two sides of the road.

Chandikeshwara Temple, Hampi

This temple, dated back to 16th Century is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. There is one central hall surrounded by a circular open space and shrine supported by external boundary.

Temple has beautiful pillar carvings of Lion, Garunda and Elephant on the main entrance and inside. You can sit in the entry hall or at shrine inside the temple and take rest.

Uddana Virabhadra Temple in Hampi

Just opposite to Chandikeshawara Temple in Hampi is situated Uddana Virabhadra Temple (Also known as Mudduviranna Temple). Dating back to 16th century, temple has a 16 feet high statue of Chaturbhuja Virabhadra.

Both of these are small temples situated amongst banana plantations in Hampi. In case, you reach early, you can sit and enjoy the calmness inside. during the day time, crowd and noise build up.
