Morning Walk: Amer Fort to Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur

Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort are the key attractions of Pink city Jaipur, however only quite a few people are aware that there is a small path that connects both these forts. A morning walk cum small trek from Amer Fort to Jaigarh Fort was on our cards since long and finally we decided to go on our excursion one fine morning during our Diwali vacation.

We made few calls to ensure that this path would be open in early morning for a walk and on very next morning, we left at 5 AM for famous Amer Fort, Jaipur. We drove our car till the entrance of Amer fort and then began our walk from the gate near Maota Lake. It was still dark and slightly cold in the morning and very few people were around on the main road.

We began on the walking trail uphill that went up just along the front boundary of Amer Fort and finally merged with the boundary of Jaigarh fort. It is steep hike and more challenging than what we had initially thought. It was quite peaceful in the morning with no tourists around except few locals who stay in forts only. Views from the top were really stunning and we could see elephants walking in a row on the road to start their day with the tourists.

It took us good one hour of walking to reach to the gate of Jaigarh Fort. Last stretch was really steep and you really need to stop for catching your breath. Sun too rose at the same time from behind the boundary wall on the opposite hill.

We could not get inside the Jaigarh Fort as it was closed in the morning. We reached up to the gate of Jaigarh Fort and then turned back to come down following the same route.

We walked along Kesar Vatika and soon reached to the main entrance point. Elephants were walking to their stable just next to the fort and pigeons were all over in the front porch just next to the lake.

We thoroughly enjoyed our small adventure. It was peaceful, fascinating and rejuvenating. We immediately headed to the shops next to the fort to have delicious and hot Kachoris and Samosas.

We also went for light and sound show at Amer Fort in the evening. It was amazing and one of the best light and sound show we had ever seen. Whole fort was lit with lights changing with the voice of Amitabh Bachchan for lines written by Gulzar.

There are two shows in the evening – English (6:30 PM) and Hindi (7:30 PM). We attended Hindi one and it was really amazing. Light effect on the fort was also superb and Amitabh Bachchan’s voice on top of Gulzar’s lyrics added to the whole experience. Ticket charges are Rs 100 per person for Hindi show and Rs 200 for English Show.

Happy Exploration !!
